Heavily armed individuals broke into the local Catholic church in the first section of Nérac, in the commune of Bassin Bleu, (North West) and kidnapped several citizens on Saturday night, Zoom Haiti News has learned. Among them, Father Claircius Dorvilus who runs the parish of Saint-Michel. The thugs also kidnapped a brother and a sister of the religious leader and another character whose first name is Joachim.
The information was confirmed by a source at the level of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Port de paix.
The bandits also left with several valuable objects.
The commune of Bassin Bleu woke up in shock.
For the moment, police and judicial authorities are collecting information in order to identify the place where the hostages are being held, according to our source.
The kidnappers are definitely not idle in the country.
This kidnapping of Father Claircius Dorvilus and his family is reminiscent of the kidnapping of the interim executive officer of Bassin-Bleu, Milouse Rosier, and three other people who were kidnapped in the middle of the night by armed men in their home in the first communal section of Laplate.
They were finally released after being held for 4 days.
During the night of May 16 to 17, in the locality of Pendu in Carrefour Tel, near the communes of Gros-Morne and Bassin-Bleu, 20 passengers aboard a pick-up truck were kidnapped. Only the driver was released. The driver, who took refuge at the Gros Morne police station, was kept in custody by order of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in order to answer questions from the police and judicial authorities. The investigators wanted to know why only he was released and the reasons that led him to travel at an unauthorized time.
For several months now, the Port-de-Paix Public Prosecutor’s Office has prohibited all travel after 9:00 p.m.
This kidnapping occurred at a time when National Police patrols have been reinforced on certain roads, particularly on the stretch of road connecting Bassin-Bleu and Chansolme. This has caused a net decrease in cases of kidnapping of passengers in the area. This move also coincided with the release of a certain Dorcin who was identified by many as the leader of the gang operating in this area.
In Port-de-Paix, at the beginning of last week, a 14-year-old girl who was kidnapped was found on Andral Street in Lacoupe, a residential neighborhood of the city, capital of the North-West department. The girl’s parents, who preferred to remain discreet, only contacted the Judge a.i. of the Port-de-Paix Court, Paul Blanc, for the necessary follow-up.
Thanks to the information of the inhabitants of the area, the diligence of the Judge and the Unit of Maintenance of Order, UDMO, the victim was located as well as the suspects. The little girl was finally recovered. Several of the alleged kidnappers were arrested during this police operation that lasted 3 hours and 30 minutes.
