Pending fulfillment of his campaign promise, Donald Trump continues to profit from immigrant labor.
A recent CNN investigation revealed a stark contrast between Donald Trump’s campaign rhetoric and his business practices regarding immigrant workers.
According to government data analyzed by CNN, Trump Organization businesses were authorized to hire 209 foreign guest workers in 2024, a record number, almost double the figures of a decade ago, Newsbreak noted citing CNN.
The revelation comes as Trump’s presidential campaign takes a particularly tough stance against immigration, with specific criticism directed at Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio.
The investigation by CNN political correspondent Sara Murray shows that these foreign workers were mainly employed in service positions such as cooking and housekeeping under legal guest worker programs.
These programs are designed to fill temporary positions when American workers are unavailable or unwilling to fill these roles.
The significant increase in the hiring of foreign workers at Trump properties raises questions about the disconnect between the former president’s public stance on immigration and his business practices.
The investigation also revealed that Trump is not the only high-profile businessman to use foreign worker programs. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and X, a Trump ally, has also employed foreign workers in his companies.
This hiring pattern represents a notable increase in the Trump Organization’s use of foreign labor, even as the former president campaigns on a platform critical of both legal and illegal immigration.
The 2024 figures represent the highest number of foreign worker approvals for Trump’s companies in a single year, according to government records reviewed by CNN.
Foreign labor is essential to the U.S. economy. Thousands of jobs that Americans refuse to fill are often filled by immigrants determined to support themselves.
Aware of the importance of this cheap labor, successive governments have always taken advantage of poverty in neighboring countries by setting up work visa programs in various sectors. These immigrants are often forced to return to their countries of origin once their work in the U.S. is completed.
