President Trump is preparing to deploy nearly 2,000 National Guard troops to support Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities within its detention centers, according to two sources close to the matter. While not yet officially announced, this decision should materialize in the coming days, reports Latin Times.

The deployment will be carried out under Title 32, a legal framework that bypasses the limitations of the Posse Comitatus Act, which typically prohibits the use of armed forces for civil law enforcement on American soil.

This measure comes amid intensifying federal arrests of migrants. According to data reviewed by CNN, over 57,000 individuals are currently detained under ICE supervision. Facing this situation, the Trump administration seeks to increase capacity and strengthen oversight.

Military personnel, drawn from about twenty states, will be assigned more operational duties than before. Instead of purely administrative tasks, they will directly participate in operations: detainee registration, fingerprinting, and medical assistance.

A Pentagon official declined to comment on future operations while confirming the department’s readiness to support the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in implementing presidential immigration directives.

According to a document revealed by CNN, DHS has requested up to 2,500 National Guard members for various functions: logistics management, food distribution, site security, and administrative processing.

Congressional members see this as the beginning of a larger response. A senatorial advisor, speaking anonymously, mentions the possibility of mobilizing up to 20,000 troops nationwide if the situation continues, Latin Times reported.

Recently, the military has already intervened in several states. In California, 4,000 troops were deployed to Los Angeles to protect federal buildings during protests. In Florida, the National Guard monitors a new detention center in the Everglades.

Former Homeland Security officials emphasize that ICE, despite a historic $75 billion budget, still lacks sufficient staff to manage the detainee influx. Military support thus appears as a temporary solution dictated by the urgency of the situation.
