This Friday, June 3, 2022, the Canadian ambassador, Sebastien CARRIÈRE visited Bioenergy Haiti, a Canadian-Haitian company specializing in the management and processing of waste. Established in Gonaïves since 2012, by the Canadian engineer Guy DROUIN, the boss of Biothermica Technologies Inc (Biothermica), one of the largest companies in Canada specialized in the transformation of Biogas into electrical energy.
Questioned by ZoomHaitiNews on the position of Canada in relation to the dialogue between the Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry and the actors of the Montana agreement, Mr. Carrière said he encourages this process provided that the dialogue continues to find a Haitian solution to the crisis.
“It is not for us foreigners to say that this agreement is better than that one, all we are saying is get together, show us the way and we will support the process thereafter,” said Sebastien Carriere before adding that Canada is ready to help with the elections and everything that could help Haiti to get out of the crisis, but provided that all parties agree.
In this context, Ambassador Carriere sees the dialogue initiated a few weeks ago by the Government Ariel Henry and Magalie Comeau Denis of the Montana Agreement.
“SECURITY IS OF GREAT CONCERN TO US”
Also asked about the insecurity situation that has been eating away at Haitian society for years, Mr. Sebastien Carrière says he is concerned about it. Insecurity, he said, is at the root of all the problems facing Haiti. Stressing that the international community has managed to launch new projects to support the national police to combat insecurity and kidnapping in particular, which has experienced a slight decline in December January but has started again, regrets the Canadian Ambassador.
“So we will continue to support the HNP, we will continue to mobilize international assistance in security and also to ensure coordination, it is very important for donor countries, countries that support Haiti to coordinate to ensure that we optimize the use of resources from the international to help solve the problem of insecurity, “continued Sebastien Carriere.
According to the Canadian missionary, the crisis, political, electoral, etc. depend on insecurity. We have to tackle the insecurity first, he believes.
