This new measure has been taken to adapt the legal framework of the customs to the new data of international trade and industry. The new penal code also aims to promote trade facilitation, the adoption of transactional value, the fight against commercial fraud, smuggling and illicit trafficking.
The new customs code, published in a special issue of the country’s official newspaper, the Monitor, will also facilitate the partnership between the AGD and the private business sector. It will allow customs officers to apply a more attractive customs regime, strengthen customs control, establish a more dissuasive litigation procedure, dematerialize procedures and commercial transactions, accelerate the release of imported goods and at the same time increase and secure customs revenues informs the General Administration of Customs.
The adoption of this new customs code is in line with the new policy put in place by the Director General of Customs Julcene Edouard. Several meetings have been organized under his auspices with various partners to facilitate relations with the new administration. The procedure for clearing goods is no longer a handicap and a loss of earnings, says the Director General of Customs, who believes that this new customs code will strengthen the partners of the AGD.
