Society: SOFEA celebrated its 10 years of existence

The organization “Solidarite Fanm Ayisyèn pou Ede Ayiti” SOFEA celebrated its ten years of existence on Tuesday, August 16, 2022. The celebration took place in the presence of several representatives of women’s organizations and representatives of the Ministry for the Status of Women and Women’s Rights.

The president of the organization SOFEA Melissa Pierre Saint-Louis made a point of expressing her gratitude to the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and Women’s Rights and the international organizations that have supported SOFEA during its ten years of existence.


Thanks to the support of these organizations including UN Women, UNDP, the Haitian Red Cross, the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and Women’s Rights, “Solidarite Fanm pou Ede Ayiti” has been able to carry out major empowerment projects for women, projects in the field of health and women’s training, said the leader.

Melissa Pierre Saint-Louis also thanked all the women’s organizations that work tirelessly for the respect of the rights of women and girls, often victims of all forms of violence.
The president of “Solidarite Fanm pou Ede Ayiti” said she hopes that the fruitful collaboration between SOFEA and all of its international organizations will continue.

The president of the organization Refuge des femmes d’Haïti, Ms. Novia Augustin, took the opportunity to draw the attention of society to the different types of violence against women in Haitian society, sexual violence based on gender in particular. Novia Augustin encouraged parents to think about sex education for their daughters from an early age so that they are better protected against predators.

Two members of the organization “Solidarite Fanm pou Ede Ayiti” were distinguished by plaques of honor and merit for their loyalty, their courage and their sense of sacrifice for the success of SOFEA. They are Azlie RUFFIN and Shela Saint- Hubert. The representative of the UN Women also received a plaque for her support to SOFEA.
