The Israel-Iran conflict risks expanding beyond the Middle East following the official entry of the United States into the war against Iran.
According to former Russian President and current Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, several countries are now reportedly prepared to provide Iran with nuclear warheads in response to recent U.S. airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear sites.
In a lengthy message posted on the social platform X (formerly Twitter), Medvedev offered a scathing assessment of the consequences of the American strikes. According to him, far from de-escalating the crisis, the U.S. intervention could instead trigger a major escalation — potentially even a nuclear confrontation.
Here are the key points raised by Medvedev:
-
The U.S. strikes did not cause significant damage to Iran’s critical nuclear infrastructure.
-
Uranium enrichment — and now the potential production of nuclear weapons — will continue.
-
Several countries are reportedly willing to directly transfer nuclear warheads to Iran.
-
Israel is now under fire, with explosions rocking the country and the population in panic.
-
The United States is entering a new war, with the possibility of a ground operation looming.
-
The Iranian regime has not been weakened — on the contrary, it appears strengthened.
-
The population, including former critics and indifferent citizens, is rallying around the religious authorities.
-
Donald Trump, once dubbed “the president of peace,” has dragged the U.S. into a new war.
-
A majority of countries around the world disapprove of the actions taken by Israel and the United States.
-
According to Medvedev, Trump can forget about winning the Nobel Peace Prize — “however corrupt it may be.”
Medvedev’s comments appear aimed at delegitimizing the U.S. operation while suggesting the possibility of increased — potentially nuclear — military support for Iran.
Although Russia, a nuclear-armed power, has not explicitly confirmed it would provide such weapons to Tehran, Medvedev’s remarks imply that a red line may have been crossed.
If such threats were to materialize, the risk of a large-scale military conflict involving multiple nuclear powers could become a very real concern.
China, another nuclear superpower, has yet to announce whether it intends to participate directly in the conflict. However, the Chinese government has condemned the U.S. decision to bomb Iranian nuclear sites.
