Security: Major police operation on the Gros Morne/Port-de-Paix road; Several alleged bandits killed

The announcement was made by the Departmental Directorate of the Haitian National Police – PNH of the Northwest, this Monday afternoon, stressing that the operation is a success.
Since the morning of Sunday, July 31, 2022, an important police operation is engaged in the localities of Ti Bois-d’homme, Pendu and Bera, whose objective is to neutralize the bandits and free all these areas from the influence of armed gangs of Artibonite operating in this jurisdiction a few kilometers from the southern entrance of the Department of the Northwest.
This operation is led by the Departmental Directorate of Artibonite with the support of the police officers of the Departmental Unit of Maintenance of Order of the North-West and the Departmental Service of the Judicial Police due to the geographical proximity of the two departments and especially the direct impacts of kidnapping and robbery cases on their population.
According to the police, so far this operation, the first phase of which aims to neutralize the gangs that were attacking the users of National Road #5, is going as planned. For now, traffic in the Gros Morne/Ti Bois-d’homme segment is guaranteed by the UDMO team on site.
The partial toll of the operation is 3 bandits fatally wounded and 6 injured, according to information gathered by the Service Départemental de Renseignement.
In addition, 4 gunshot wounds were reported. Among them was an employee of the Ministry of National Education. 4 suspects were arrested, 6 motorcycles were seized and 1 police vehicle was damaged.
The North-Western Police Department has announced that it will continue its operations until it achieves its final objectives, which include freeing the villages of Plate, Odigé, Bera, and Pendu from the bandits who are taking the populations of these areas hostage. According to the North-Western Police Department Director Bruce Myrtile, the operation will take the necessary time until the eradication of the armed group operating in the areas.
The situation has been tense in the area in recent days. Last Thursday, an officer of the UDMO, a member of the 27th promotion of the PNH, was ambushed on the road to “Tibwadòm” and killed after being shot in the head.
