Port-de-Paix: Commissioner Alangue intends to combat the passport racket

CTN News

Commissioner Alangue Valbrun, currently in office in Port-de-Paix, says he is fully committed to solving the problems associated with passport files. He assures that he will provide guarantees to any victim of racketeering who lodges a formal complaint with his office, pledging to take the necessary corrective measures.

“With regard to passports, I would like to reassure anyone who considers themselves a victim of racketeering. As Commissioner Alangue Valbrun, I am committed to taking corrective action if I receive a formal complaint on this matter,” said the Commissioner.
He also pointed out that one of the main problems in passport cases is that people complain but don’t report anyone. This creates an environment where criminals feel free to pursue their activities. Commissioner Alangue Valbrun stresses the importance of formal complaints, which are an essential step in the fight against crime in the country.

It is crucial that individuals understand that they have the right to lodge a formal complaint with the police office if they are victims of passport racketeering. Commissioner Alangue Valbrun is committed to taking this into consideration and making the necessary corrections to the files. He is convinced that not only he, but all the other parquetiers, will work together to guarantee the application of justice in passport cases and respect for the laws of the land.
Since the announcement of the “humanitarian parole” program, commonly known as “Pwogram Biden”, by the US administration, lucrative businesses have been multiplying throughout the country on the backs of the population. Agencies and other intermediaries set their own passport prices and control the return of offices. In most cases, it costs between 35,000 and 50,000 gourdes to obtain a passport in Port-de-Paix.
About two weeks ago, departmental director Jean Wilson sounded the alarm on ZoomHaitiNews about racketeers storming Port-de-Paix immigration offices.
