Seriously damaged by the earthquake of January 12, 2010 and that of January 25, 2022, the police station of Miragoâne is still not demolished despite its dilapidated appearance.
At a press conference on Thursday, February 16, 2023, the executive director of the Japanese Solidarity for Human Rights (SONID), Marck-Artur Bienvenue said he was concerned about the poor condition of the building of the Miragoâne police station, which had been damaged by the earthquakes of January 12, 2010 and January 25 last year. According to an investigation conducted by SONID, despite the relocation of the Miragoâne police station to another space, police officers are still housed in the building, said the human rights defender. Marck-Artur Bienvenue invited the state authorities to act in this sense so as not to jeopardize the lives of the police officers and the people using the space.
It should be noted that the ruined building of the police station of Miragoâne is located downtown. This represents a real danger for the population, some residents of the city of Fernand Hibbert are alarmed.
