The game that the teams of Querétaro and Atlas played this Saturday night, for the ninth day of the Mexican Clausura soccer championship, was suspended due to a fierce clash between the fans of both clubs at the La Corregidora stadium. About 20 fans were injured, according to media reports.
In the 62nd minute, the game had to be suspended because some participants began to invade the pitch fleeing the violence in the stands, where fans of both teams were fighting with belts, sticks, chairs and other artifacts.
After the violence, the Querétaro and Atlas teams, as well as other Mexican soccer teams, issued brief statements condemning the violence and demanding that those responsible be punished.
“Those responsible for the lack of security in the stadium will be punished in an exemplary manner. The safety of our players and fans is a priority,” wrote Liga MX president Mikel Arriola on Twitter.
The president of Liga MX confirmed the suspension of the rest of the matches of the 9th day, after the incidents of violence at the Corregidora stadium.
The Mexican Football Federation announced the opening of an investigation file after the violent events at the Corregidora stadium during the match between Querétaro and Atlas that ended in a clash between fans of the 2 teams.
