Members of the Village de Dieu gang opened fire yesterday, Friday, June 10, on the premises of the Palais de Justice at the Bicentenaire, in Port-au-Prince. Considerable losses were recorded. It took the intervention of the police to avoid the worst, managing to evacuate the people. This attack led by the gang group “5 segonn” against the prosecutor’s office of Port-au-Prince arouses the indignation of more than one. Several voices in society have been raised to criticize and condemn this act. This is the case in particular of the activist lawyer Assenel Paul, member of the bar of Mirebalais. He denounced the behavior of the bandits who tried to storm the Port-au-Prince prosecutor’s office.
The tolerance of the de facto government of Ariel Henry with the bandits goes too far, according to the lawyer. Mr. Assenel Paul asks the commander in chief of the Haitian National Police, Frantz Elbe, to take all necessary measures to put an end to the reign of these thugs which is perpetuated.
The activist lawyer demands, like his peers of the bar of the capital, the relocation of the Port-au-Prince prosecutor’s office to the bicentennial, which he says represents an imminent danger to the lives of judges and lawyers in the course of their work.
Despite repeated requests, work stoppages and demonstrations by the Port-au-Prince Bar Association to demand the relocation of the Public Prosecutor’s Office to the Bicentennial, the de facto government of Ariel Henry continues to turn a deaf ear. More than one person wonders what the behavior of the de facto government of Ariel Henry will be after this attempt by the village kings of God.
