CTN News

The incident occurred around midnight on the night of May 16 to 17 in the locality of Pendu in Carrefour Tel, near the town of Gros Morne, Zoom Haiti News learned. This pickup truck, which was traveling from Port-de-Paix to Gonaïves, was carrying 20 passengers. They were all held by the heavily armed thugs.
The driver who was released and who took refuge at the Gros Morne police station, is now being held in custody under the order of the Public Prosecutor’s Office to answer questions from the police and judicial authorities. The investigators are trying to find out why only the driver was released and why he was traveling at an unauthorized time.
For several months now, the Port-de-Paix Public Prosecutor’s Office has prohibited all travel after 9:00 p.m.
This kidnapping came at a time when National Police patrols have been reinforced on certain roads, particularly on this section. This has caused a sharp decline in cases of kidnapping of passengers in the area. This move also coincides with the release of a certain Dorcin, who is identified by many as the leader of the gang that operates in this area.
