Dr. Paul Farmer, renowned American physician and co-founder of Zanmi Lasante has died at the age of 62, Zoomhaitinews has learned.
Known as a great philanthropist, Dr. Paul Farmer is also an American medical anthropologist and physician who was born on October 26, 1959 in North Adams, Massachusetts.
With a doctorate in medicine and anthropology, Dr. Farmer has served as a professor of health anthropology in the Department of Medicine at the prestigious Harvard University.
Having served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Aristide Foundation for Democracy, Dr. Farmer was, between 2009 and 2012, Deputy Special Envoy for Haiti and UN Special Advisor to the Secretary General on Community Medicine and Education in Haiti.
Former medical director of the Bon Sauveur Hospital, Zanmi Lasante in Cange in the commune of Mirebalais, Dr. Paul Farmer is the author of numerous journal articles, books important to the medical and scientific community.
