An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 on the Richter scale was recorded on Tuesday, around 10 am, in the city of Cayes, in the South department, creating a great deal of panic among the population, especially at the Esternat St. Joseph school.
The frightened students rushed out of the school to seek safety in the street. Parents rushed to get their children back.
Also in the Grand Sud, the commune of Dame-Marie, in the Grand-anse, was subject to an earthquake of low magnitude, 2.7, while in Barradères, in the Nippes, the intensity of the tremor felt was 3 on the Richter scale.
The department of the West was not left behind, a tremor of reduced magnitude 1, 6 was recorded north of the town of Carrefour, confirmed the engineer-geologist, Claude Preptit.
