The growing wave of disillusionment among Donald Trump’s MAGA allies continues to intensify.

Another key supporter of the U.S. president during the 2024 campaign has now publicly distanced himself. Libertarian comedian Dave Smith, a once-vocal advocate for Trump, appears to have had a change of heart. Only now, he admits, does he realize that the promises made by Donald Trump were “too good to be true.”

Expressing deep regret over his previous endorsement, Smith harshly criticized Trump’s handling of the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.

During a widely noticed appearance on Breaking Points on Monday, Smith called his support for Trump “a bad calculation” and declared:

“He should be impeached for this.”

His tone left no doubt about the depth of his disagreement. Smith went further, urging all Trump supporters to abandon the president:

“This is an absolute betrayal of everything he campaigned on, of everything he claimed to stand for.”

Amid an intensifying exchange of missile strikes between Israel and Iran, President Trump has not ruled out potential U.S. involvement. While stating that Iranian leaders “would like to negotiate” to ease tensions, he later slammed Tehran for failing to reach a deal, calling it a “shame” and “a waste of human life.” He also insisted Iran must never obtain nuclear weapons and called for the “immediate evacuation” of the Iranian capital.

For Dave Smith, this stance stands in stark contrast to the image Trump had long projected. The president once presented himself as a “peacemaker” and openly opposed foreign interventions, including regime change in Iran, as reported by HuffPost.

However, according to Smith, the targeted killings of senior Iranian military figures and strikes on nuclear facilities have pushed Tehran past the point of no return:

“Iran’s leaders probably feel they no longer have the option not to respond,” he said.

Smith added:

“Donald Trump asking them to return to the negotiating table now is a joke. What a powerless leader… It’s like telling Roosevelt, after Pearl Harbor, ‘Now is the time to negotiate with the Japanese.’ The time for negotiations was before — that moment has passed.”

He also predicted significant political fallout for the president:

“He’s going to lose his coalition. I’m not just speaking for myself. A lot of us won’t go along with this. It’s a devastating mistake.”

As reported by HuffPost, Smith’s explosive comments signal a major rift between Trump and a segment of his libertarian base — a group that had once rallied behind his supposedly anti-interventionist foreign policy.

As the Middle East conflict continues to unfold, the political repercussions are beginning to reach even Trump’s inner circles.
