“What needs to be done right now to achieve economic recovery? What are the challenges that await us, especially in the 21st century in the era of the knowledge economy?”, are questions posed by the economist Fritz Alphonse Jean in his intervention at a conference organized, this Wednesday at the Karibe hotel, by the Franco-Haitian Chamber of Commerce and Industry around the theme: Haiti: Urgency of an economic recovery.
The former governor of the central bank who emphasized the dependence of Haiti on international aid and the diaspora, said that the state is bankrupt. The state, he said, is unable to provide answers to the problems of the population. “The state is unable to fulfill its regalian missions: mission of education for children, mission of health service and justice or security,” explained the economist.
If there is one thing we can do to achieve economic recovery, it is social peace. The candidate for provisional president advocates a consensus between all actors to achieve social peace. “This social peace can not be achieved without a consensus between the actors”, believes Mr. Jean
“I think that there is a need for a dialogue on what we want to do with this country. This dialogue will allow us to get out of this capitalism of connivance that we practice,” said the writer.
Fritz Alphonse Jean deplored an unhealthy management of public affairs that makes people lose confidence and impoverish them. For him, a consensus to achieve social peace is essential. “This social peace is the Gordian knot, it is the anchor to arrive at the elections to be able to redefine the state,” he recommended.
