A major fire broke out early Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at the communal market in Jacmel, in the Beaudouin neighborhood. The first images showed the fire spreading while waiting for the fire department’s help.
The municipal authorities did not know on Tuesday morning the origin of the fire. While several warehouses had already gone up in smoke, shopkeepers and individuals were trying to save their goods.
Despite the arrival of firefighters on site, the fire continued to spread until 6:00 am. A team from the Ministry of Public Works clearing away the rubbish and what was left after the fire was seen at the scene.
The extent of the damage is really considerable. Merchants will be really desperate to make ends meet, according to the general observation.
It should be recalled that several organizations of merchants of Jacmel have demonstrated during the month of March to protest against the high cost of living and insecurity, aggravated by the situation prevailing on the National Road Number 2 at Martissant (Port-au-Prince).
