Formerly known as École Commautaire de Baguette and now as École Nationale de Baguette. Only the name changed in 2017. The institution remains in a state of disrepair. Despite various promises, the walls do not stop emptying daily on the 100 schoolchildren who attend the space and this, on the helpless look of its Director Mr. Lordéus Obenson. Some classes are housed at the nearest neighbor during heavy rains.
The postponement of the start of the school year by one month by the Ministry of Education will not change the situation for the Baguette National School, which is devoid of everything. Dozens of schoolchildren are therefore preparing to face a sad academic adventure for the 2022-2023 academic year in the only national school in the area. Without the help of state authorities, without the support of good Samaritans, the situation is likely to get worse. The Baguette school is in danger of experiencing its worst academic year since its founding in the 1980s.
With about a month to go before classes reopen, parents and residents of the area are crying out for help from officials and NGOs working in the education sector to avoid disaster.
Baguette is a locality located in Diondion, the seventh section of the commune of Jean Rabel, in the department of the North-West and in the Arrondissement of Môle-Saint-Nicolas, at the extreme western tip of the northern peninsula of Haiti.
