The businessman was direct in his criticism of Trump’s trade policy: “Trump has put his tariffs everywhere. I tried to understand them. I can’t. For me, it’s more about the trade deficit. Hey, we get so much stuff from you, you get so much from us. Let’s balance it out. Let’s find some crazy formula and apply tariffs. And everything’s in the toilet because of it,” denounced the MAGA millionaire.
This statement represents a dramatic shift for Portnoy, who had supported Trump in previous elections, including last November’s. However, the economic impact of the tariff measures appears to have shaken this loyalty.
