Haitian music is in mourning

The legendary musician and father of maestro Arly Larivière, Daniel Larivière has left us. The news was announced by Guy Wewe on its online platforms, without giving too many details on the circumstances surrounding the death of the musician.

Daniel Larivière marked the Haitian music industry in the 80s. He was a singer and composer in the Tropicana orchestra of Haiti with which he had great success.

This famous musician also contributed to the success of several other musical formations and artists in Haiti. He was 77 years old and had been ill for several years.

Daniel Larivière is considered by many as a heritage of Haitian music.

Several musical groups have paid tribute to this great musician.

This is the case of the Tropicana orchestra of Haiti, which said “deeply saddened by this departure”. In a statement released Thursday, the administration of the International Golden Rocket saluted “the undying contribution of its musical director.”

The musical group KLASS also sent its sympathies to the family of maestro Daniel Larivière presented by the band to Richie as “a musical genius and a legend in the Haitian music industry.” The contribution of the singer, composer and arranger Daniel Larivière in Haitian music will remain unforgettable, added the group KLASS in a statement posted on its facebook page.

The Ministry of Culture and Communication also praised the very talented musician Daniel Lariviere who “has marked and influenced the Haitian music industry by his compositions that will remain unforgettable,” adding that: “The death of Maestro Daniel Lariviere leaves a great void.”

Originally from Cap-Haitien, Daniel Larivière was born on February 10, 1946. Musical director of the Tropicana orchestra of Haiti for many years, Daniel Larivière composed several successful songs including: Limonade, Mizè Malere, Frè Kot Papa, Erzulie, Doux Tropic and Sérénade des Mélomanes, among others. Many of his compositions are currently being featured in the media in Haiti and abroad.

He has received several major awards both in Haiti and abroad.
