Cayes: Eight inmates died in the civil prison because of the heat

CTN News

The government commissioner of the city of Cayes Ronald Richemond said he has recorded eight deaths among those imprisoned in the civil prison of the jurisdiction due to high heat.

The high temperatures would be the cause of death of at least eight inmates in the civil prison of Cayes, said the CG of the jurisdiction, Mr. Ronald Richemond who took the opportunity to draw the attention of government authorities and members of civil society on the plight of prisoners who do not have access to health care or adequate medicines while many of them suffer from malnutrition.

It is possible that the problem of overcrowding in detention centers will intensify with the heat wave that affects several regions of the country during the summer period, while pointing out that some cells have no windows or even an air conditioning system.

Mr. Ronald Richemond says he hopes that the concerned authorities take into account the situation which develops in the prison centers stunned by very strong heat.

According to studies, in times of heat waves, you should drink a lot of fresh liquids, especially water, before you get thirsty in order to reduce your risk of dehydration.
