As the commemoration of the first anniversary of the heinous assassination of President Jovenel Moïse at his home in Pèlerin 5, on the night of July 6 to 7, 2021 approaches, the General Inspectorate of the Haitian National Police (IGPNH) has taken a hard line in terms of sanctions against police officers involved in this case. It ordered the dismissal of 33 PNH officers and the release of 3 others.
The spokesperson for the PNH, Divisional Inspector Garry Desrosiers, made the announcement at a press conference on Tuesday, June 28, 2022. He indicated that the IGPNH has recommended the dismissal of more than twenty police officers while three others have been placed on leave as part of the administrative investigation into the assassination of the former head of state.
As part of this case, the Haitian National Police said it confiscated several firearms, fragmentation grenades, vehicles and other materials that were used to facilitate the execution of the crime.
The Central Directorate of Judicial Police is actively looking for a dozen people involved in the assassination of Jovenel Moïse, according to the divisional inspector Garry Desrosiers.
Note that several police officers are incarcerated in the National Penitentiary for their involvement in this murder, including Dimitri Hérard, head of the General Security Unit of the National Palace, and Jean Laguel Civil, coordinator of the President’s security.
The measures adopted by the General Inspectorate of the Haitian National Police come just days before the commemoration of the first anniversary of the assassination of former President Jovenel Moïse on July 7, 2022.
