As a prelude to the political negotiations between the proponents of the Montana Accord and de facto Prime Minister Ariel Henry, political leaders are announcing demonstrations throughout the country to denounce the Prime Minister’s inability to solve the problem of insecurity.
Indeed, the Protocol of National Understanding has presented a schedule of national mobilization that will begin on June 7 in Gonaives.
After this day, the mobilization will be general throughout the country to denounce insecurity, kidnapping and the inability of the Prime Minister to solve these problems, reported the leaders of PEN at a press conference Friday, June 3, 2022.
With this new schedule, the national agreement protocol intends to revive the torch of mobilization. It will be a question of denouncing the insecurity, kidnapping and the high cost of living that has settled in the country about 10 months since the accession of the de facto Prime Minister Ariel Henry at the head of government, according to one of the leaders of PEN, former Senator Youri Latortue.
According to the former parliamentarian, this mobilization schedule must begin in Gonaives during a demonstration to be held on June 7. This first day will be followed by a large gathering of peasant organizations in Bas-Artibonite to denounce the attitude of contempt of the head of government towards the planters who cannot find fertilizer to cultivate their fields.
The mobilization will be general throughout the country after the two days of demonstration according to the former deputy of Cerca-Carvajal Antoine Rodon Bien-Aimé. Despite the betrayals and low blows of some actors in the popular struggle, the former deputy believes it is necessary to continue the struggle for the liberation of the country with the involvement of all progressives and patriots.
Regarding the complicit silence of the head of government in relation to the situation of blockage of the Grand Sud one year since the armed gangs installed themselves as masters and lords in the neighborhood of Martissant, Youri Latortue is not surprised. Ariel Henry has always shown himself incapable of resolving this situation, notes the coordinator of the political party Ayiti an Aksyon.
It is not appropriate to wait for the diktats of the international community to act in the direction of the struggle for a radical change in the country declares former deputy Antoine Rodon Bien-Aimé. As the leaders of the Protocol of National Understanding launch this mobilization schedule, the Prime Minister flew to Los Angeles on Friday, June 3, where he is scheduled to participate in the Ninth Summit of the Americas. He is scheduled to return to the country on June 14 to possibly participate in the negotiations with the actors of the expanded Montana.
With this in mind, some see the media appearance of the PEN leaders as a pressure strategy to force the head of government to give up some of his weight during possible negotiations. Will they have the means to carry out their policy?
Ariel Henry goes to the US
Prime Minister Ariel Henry left Port-au-Prince on Friday, June 4, for the United States to represent Haiti at the ninth Summit of the Americas, which is taking place from June 6 to 10 in Los Angeles.
The head of the de facto government has promised to address the glaring problem of insecurity in Haiti with his international allies. The issues of bad governance and socio-economic difficulties will also be addressed, he informs.
The Prime Minister took the opportunity to reiterate his willingness to dialogue with all actors of the political spectrum in order to get the country out of the impasse. “No sacrifice is too great when it comes to saving our beloved Haiti,” said the tenant of the primary.
The presence of Dr. Ariel Henry at the ninth Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles does not pass with the political opposition. The Protocol of National Understanding has distanced itself from the participation of the de facto Prime Minister in this activity that will begin Monday.
According to one of the leaders of the PEN, the former deputy Serge Jean Louis, Ariel Henry will not represent the Haitian people in these meetings, because he stressed, the head of government does not have the legitimacy required and necessary for such a step.
A letter will be sent to the organizers of the summit to signify the position of the Haitian people who do not recognize the participation of the head of government in this summit said Serge Jean Louis. It remains to be seen what effect this correspondence will have and if it will be considered.
