The Prime Minister Ariel Henry marks the first year of his investiture as head of the executive, by distinguishing more than sixty police officers. The head of government wanted to salute these agents of order for brilliant actions taken in the exercise of their function.
This ceremony held at the General Directorate of the Haitian National Police was an opportunity for the de facto Prime Minister to show his gratitude to the Haitian National Police and renew his promises of materials to the police institution.
It is as a sign of recognition of their sacrifices in the fight against insecurity, kidnapping and organized crime, that the de facto Prime Minister Ariel Henry proceeded to the awarding of distinctions to 66 police officers this Wednesday, July 20, 2022. If the government’s gesture is far from being equal to the sacrifices made by the PNH officers working in difficult conditions in the ten geographical departments of the country, it also reflects the recognition of the government and the PNH high staff. Far from being satisfied in the fight against organized crime and kidnapping, the Chief Director General of the PNH asks the police officers to redouble their efforts to guarantee the security of the lives and property of all citizens throughout the country.
Under the leadership of Dr. Henry and the head of the CSPN, the population and foreigners have regained confidence in the police institution which was disorganized” said the neurosurgeon. Ariel Henry praised his government for initiating reforms within the PNH to remedy the situation.
Despite the many promises of materials and adequate equipment made to the police institution, the police continue to operate with the means at hand. This, according to many, favors the bandits, who are often better equipped than the police. Not having yet received these materials, the Chief Director General of the PNH refreshes the memory of the members of the government in his own way and already promises to make good use of them.
“Despite the absence of appropriate means, the Director General of the National Police has finally straightened the boat and put his troops in confidence” said the Prime Minister. If the date of delivery of the new equipment promised to the PNH for more than 2 weeks is still unknown, Ariel Henry, without any embarrassment, renewed his promise to the institution.
After a long speech by the Prime Minister to try to gain the trust of the police officers, the de facto Prime Minister finally addressed the police officers who were chosen to be distinguished for their bravery and sacrifice despite the limited means of the police institution. In the absence of the plaques of distinction that are not yet ready, a letter was given to his policemen and new promises of a better life.
Coming from several units of the police institution, it is with great pride that these policemen received their letters of distinction.
It should be said that the government, in the Council of Ministers, adopted a decree instituting a special risk allowance for police officers engaged in special operations. The Prime Minister believes that it is the duty of the State to reward these men who take risks for the well-being of the population. However, the Prime Minister recognizes that the amount allocated will not do much.
