At the initiative of the Nippes departmental coordination of the political party “Pitit Desaiin”, several hundred people took to the streets this Monday, October 17, 2022, to demand the departure of the de facto Prime Minister Ariel Henry. On this date marking the 216th anniversary of the assassination of the founding father of the Haitian nation Jean Jacques Dessalines, the demonstrators carrying signs with slogans hostile to the current government have walked from Carrefour Lacroix, to” Bouzi” and Berqun passing on the place of Fernand Hibbert to Carrefour Desruisseaux.
The former candidate for deputy of “Pitit DesaIin” for the constituency of Payant/Petite-Rivière de Nippes Jules André Sterling, who took part in the movement, demanded the departure of the head of government Ariel Henry and his team, noting their inability to solve the problems that ravage the country including the scarcity of fuel, the high cost of living and insecurity.
Jules André encouraged the political actors to find a solution to the crisis through the 10 remaining senators, who, he said, are the only ones with a constitutional mandate.
The coordinator of the Nippes of “Pitit Desaiin” Maxy Fleurant, made a satisfactory assessment of the event. He thanked the members of the Nippes population and those of “Pitit Desain” who took to the streets to express their fed up with the management of PM Ariel Henry.
It should be noted that the demonstration took place without incident under the control of agents of the Departmental Unit of Maintenance of Order (UDMO) of Nippes.
