As the days pass and life becomes more expensive, the protest movements of citizens are intensifying across the country. In Jacmel in the locality of Meyer, several dozen citizens took to the streets this Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at the initiative of the Regional Coordination of Organizations of the Southeast, CROS (KRÒS), to protest against insecurity, kidnapping, high living costs and unemployment among others. The 12 months of the de facto Prime Minister Ariel Henry at the head of the country since the heinous assassination of President Jovenel Moïse have worsened the living conditions of Haitians to the highest point, the protesters denounced.
Through concerts of pans and horns, these visibly angry citizens have made themselves heard. They castigate the incompetence and carelessness of the government team of Ariel Henry, completed by former political opponents of Jovenel Moïse. These citizens blocked the traffic for some time. A protester, equipped with a megaphone took the opportunity to invite other citizens to become aware, stating that it is no longer time for passivity, let alone inaction.
In the meantime, the depreciation of the gourde in relation to the US dollar is causing the prices of basic necessities in public markets to explode. It takes up to 137 gourdes for 1 US dollar on the informal market, according to information received by ZoomHaitiNews. Added to this, the terror of the gangs, characterized by the complicit and acting silence of the State authorities, further complicates the hell that the Haitian population has been living since Ariel Henry took over the State.
And to think that the team in place, without any program to alleviate the misery of the population, is only taking advantage of public funds. A macabre picture notes this citizen, a member of KRÒS, which undresses the neurosurgeon at the head of the country. “Fuel is becoming scarce. It sells for up to 2000 gourdes in some places. The prices of food products, let’s not talk about it. While Ariel Henry does nothing but sleep on his pillows, without worrying about the miseries of the population”, expressed with a very angry air the young man, considering the carelessness of Ariel Henry as one of the causes responsible for the deterioration of the living conditions of the population.
The Haitians who choose to live in Haiti can no longer stand this situation, deplore the members of KRÒS, announcing a vast protest movement on July 28 in the South-East department against the team of Ariel Henry and his allies. The protesters, members of this platform of popular organization declare that they will not give up, indicating that they will go all the way.
This movement, initiated by the Regional Coordination of Organizations of the Southeast, signatory of the Montana Agreement, comes at a time when the socio-economic conditions of the country are reaching one of the most critical levels of its existence.
Paradoxically, the government authorities are preparing to increase the price of gasoline at gas stations, while the political crisis is becoming more serious, and the various actors are playing a tightrope.
In addition, the Regional Coordination of Organizations of the Southeast suggests that the posture of the neurosurgeon Ariel Henry, reigning as sole master and lord, in the Prime Minister’s Office, in the absence of the President, is a kind of usurpation of title and function. The coordinator of this structure, Espady Pitchon invites the neurosurgeon to get a grip on his desire to establish a single-headed power in the country. In addition, the political leader believes that the time must come for Ariel Henry to listen to reason, calling on the population for a general uprising.
