Prime Minister Ariel Henry presented the results of his participation in the 33rd Intersessional Meeting of Heads of Government of Caricom and the 4th Summit of Caricom and Central American Integration System (SICA) leaders on March 1, 2 and 3.
This visit has allowed the country to strengthen its economic ties with the Caribbean countries and strengthen cooperation in several areas including security, trade and environmental management, said the head of government.
Dr. Ariel Henry announced that the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) plans to grant the country a grant of $ 45 million over the period from 2022 to 2026, with the aim of helping Haiti to address the challenges related to the recovery of the Deep South devastated by the earthquake of August 14.
The issue of insecurity and elections were at the heart of this tour of the Haitian delegation to the 33rd Intersessional Meeting of Heads of Government of Caricom.
The Prime Minister said he requested the support of these countries to help Haiti in the fight against the scourge of insecurity that is a threat to the entire region.
In this sense, the Prime Minister announced the arrival in the country for very soon of an exploratory mission of Caricom.
This mission will also be responsible for the establishment of structure and modalities for the realization of elections with particular emphasis on the formation of the provisional electoral council and the strengthening of other important institutions of the country.
According to the head of the Prime Minister’s Office, this exploratory mission of Caricom must meet with the country’s defense forces to help understand and resolve the problem of insecurity.
For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship, Jean Victor Généus expressed his enthusiasm for this tour of the Haitian delegation to the 33rd Intersessional Meeting of Heads of Government of Caricom and the 4th Summit of Caricom leaders and the Central American Integration System (SICA).
Minister Jean Victor Généus believes that this event marks the return in force of Haiti within this regional institution.
The Haitian chancellor renewed the willingness of the Haitian government to work to make more active the presence of the country within Caricom.
